Sensory Art Collections
A vast range of stimulating artworks, touch tiles and objects for sensory inspiration
Created by artists, this is a collection of fascinating original works of art, handling objects and portable touch tiles which provide sensory stimulus. Each object or tile comes with its own information and ideas as to how it can be used to inspire activities. Touch Tiles are tactile, interactive tiles made from a range of materials including re-cycled plastics, bronze, stone and wood. All the tiles can be locked securely into a mobile table that either holds four tiles or a single tile. Some tiles are suitable for use with clay for real hands-on enjoyment.
Held in the hand objects
They can encourage the use of expressive and descriptive words, provide a sensory experience or stimulate the imagination. There is no right or wrong about what these objects are, they are whatever young people imagine they are.

Touch Tiles
Touch Tiles provide a range of interactive and sensory experiences in the form of square tiles. Some provide purely sensory experiences while others involve greater interaction with turning handles or moving mechanical parts.
Use for:
- Engaging interactive learning experiences
- Opportunities for learning about the world around us
- Encouraging interaction
- Learning through touch and sensory contact
Artworks
Want to brighten up your walls or show children a work of art featuring their favourite animal? The Artworks collection offers a diverse range of works including sculptures which can be handled.
Examples include:
- The world around us, landscapes, cities, countryside and seascapes
- Wildlife, including tigers, dinosaurs, rhinos, badgers, foxes and birds
- Portraits and pictures of people
- Art that can be touched including wood carved reliefs, large sculpture and tactile bronzes
- Bright colourful works including rainbows and abstract pictures
- “Reverspectives” that move and change perspective as you walk past them
Loan period for these items is one term.
Depending on which colour modules you choose, you can borrow:
Pink module – 3 x Artworks/Touch Tiles/Held in the Hand objects
Purple module – 4 x Artworks/Touch Tiles/Held in the Hand objects
Green module – 13 x Artworks/Touch Tiles/Held in the Hand objects
Orange module – 30 x Artworks/Touch Tiles/Held in the Hand objects
Leicestershire County Council insures all artworks borrowed from Creative Learning Services up to an agreed value per individual artwork and total value of artworks per school.
